First Episode: WHOA her outfit is so revealing so much fanservice
Later Episodes: saying DUUUUUUUDDEEEE every goddamn new episode
because its like every new episode is something even more crazier and im just like i love this >->O
I think a big part of why I read way more fanfiction than books is that there’s just a hell of a lot less exposition
the first 10 pages of most books are always “these are the main characters and here’s some background on each of them and this is the setting etc etc” and it’s such a fucking hassle getting to the plot sometimes
fanfic is just like “fuck it you know all of this already let’s go”
No, that’s not the problem.
What you’re talking about aren’t “books”, but badly written books. Good books catch you by the collar on the first page, take you inside the story and make you feel like you already know all of the characters, every detail of the setting, without pausing the action even for a moment to explain to you what’s going on or why or when, not infodumping it on you, at least. They show you what’s happening just like a movie would.
And I could write an essay about this, but many people (to name a random one, Stephen King) already wrote whole books about how to write narrative decently.
The heart of the matter is, don’t discredit books just because there are a lot of bad writers out there. Because believe me, fan fictions sometimes could be better than bad books, but 99% of the time they’re written badly too, and the only good point is that they talk about characters and situations you’re fond of. But good books? Nothing can beat them.
REAL LIFE DISNEY PRINCE TOM HIDDLESTON EXHIBIT
Always reblog the Real Life Disney Prince. Pay attention boys, this is how it’s done.
And people say chivalry is dead.
It’s not dead. British actors just absorbed it all.
What the hell is up with the weather in the world at the moment? America’s still caught up in that reenactment of Frozen, Australia is more on fire than usual, and I’m currently blogging from the magical underwater kingdom of the south-east of England.
